In one of the common areas at the La Louvière shelter, Christelle comforts Armelle, who has just had a fight with her daughter. Armelle and her children (ages 12 and 14) came to the shelter in January 2011 to escape the violence of her second marriage. Inside the shelter, in addition to the substantial aid provided by the counselors, the collective support of the other residents plays a major role. The creation of a new social network is vital for women who often find themselves alone, having been isolated from their former friends by their partners. The educators in charge of psychosocial support, who are fully aware of the therapeutic benefits of the group, also make use of group dynamics when working with the residents. And beyond this practical side, strong bonds of friendship are also forged at the shelter. March 14, 2011 – La Louvière – Belgium. © Pierre-Yves GINET | |||
