Coline Dubois, a youth worker at the La Louvière shelter, takes the resident children to school in the early morning. Except in unusual cases, all school-age children are back in the classroom a week after arriving at the center. The association’s leaders have an agreement with a local school, which speeds up the children’s transfers. For safety reasons, a youth worker systematically accompanies the children wherever they go outside the shelter. Coline Dubois has been a member of the team for the past five years. As a child, she herself was a resident at the La Louvière shelter with her mother. It was at that point that she decided she wanted to work in the social sector. The children occupy most of her time, although she, like the rest of the shelter’s team, has been cross-trained to perform multiple functions. In particular, she and her colleague, Tina Abis, are in charge of seeking accommodation for residents leaving the shelter. December 10, 2010 – La Louvière – Belgium. © Pierre-Yves GINET | |||
