The Avega widows, adoptive mothers to the orphans of the genocide

One hour’s journey South of Kigali, in the town of Bugesera, the Ntarama Church was the scene for one of the genocides’ most brutal massacres in 1994. Five thousand people had sought refuge within the religious confines. All were massacred in a few hours. Grenades, firearms and machetes were used. The remains of their bones entangled to the clothes in shreds coats the Church’s floor, testifying the horror.
