Jeanne Mukangarambe, aged 42, kneeling, helps Claudine Nyirakomine, at the end of a meeting gathering a few members of Avega from the District of Gatenga, in the Rwandese capital. Jeanne Mukangarambe’s five children were all killed before her eyes during the genocide. Among them, a baby boy, six days old. Survivor after weeks of running in the bushes, Jeanne has adopted two orphans, one of them is a Hutu child. Claudine Nyirakomine, aged 42, has also lost her husband as well as her entire family. Rare case, her four children survived the tragedy. Claudine jumped over a mine on Kigali’s border, a few weeks after the town’s liberation. In order to feed her children, she works on a coffee plantation, as the collecting may be done in a sitting position. June 2005 – Kigali - Rwanda. © Pierre-Yves GINET | |||
